Our client is an international, low-cost gold producer that has produced over 250 thousand oz at less than $600 ASIC in a calendar year.They currently require a Chief Geologist for their open pit gold operation in Africa.
The position will be responsible for the day to day activities, management of the open pit mine ore control activities, geologic interpretation, production infill drilling, and delivering production data & reports. Emphasis will be on ore grade control, minimizing of dilution, sorting of ore types and tracking ore stockpile quantities and quality. The incumbent will also be responsible for resource replacement and near field exploration programs and assist in short and long term mine planning. In addition, responsibilities include overseeing geotechnical data collection and assist in ground control design and procedures for mine development and production, all the while ensuring a strong commitment to safety and environmental compliance.
Job Requirements:

Ability to manage contractors & consultants
Optimise the extraction of mineralised zones and minimise dilution
Supervise other mine engineers, geologists and surveyors
Conduct resource modeling and resource estimates
Assist in design of open pit mine development and production
Assist in mine planning activities for both short term and long term
Responsible for coordinating ore control activities, sorting of ore types and tracking ore stockpile quantities and quality with mine operations
Responsible for preparation of daily, weekly, monthly and yearly production reports
Prepare clearly written monthly reports and other documentation on required frequencies.
Prepare capital and operating cost estimates
Develop and manage budgets
Maintain constructive and effective working relationships with employees, contractors and consultants.

Position Duties:

  • Experience in geotechnical mapping, rock mechanics, ground control techniques, related analysis and design
  • Capable of utilising latest computer & software technologies such as Microsoft office products, CAD software, and mining programs such as Vulcan, Surpac, MineSite, Gemcom or Datamine.
  • Proficient in resource modeling & designing of mine development
  • Supervisory experience with both technical and non technical personnel
Experience
Minimum of five years in mineral exploration and open cut mining fields
