5741 - Senior Metallurgist - Overseas Contract

Our Client is the owner and developer of one of the world's premier gold mines.

They are currently seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Senior Metallurgist to join their team.

This position assists in leading the Metallurgy group in determining the most cost effective and efficient processes to maximise the metallurgical performance of the Process Plant, and to ensure that the plant operates within the designated parameters to meet production targets. This is a vital role in the Metallurgy group and requires a mature, reliable and hard working person who is able to work safely and responsibly at all times. The role is focussed on adding value to the operation through optimising the operation of the processing plant, undertaking project work to target operational improvements and providing technical direction and mentoring to the metallurgy group.  

Key elements of the role include:

  • Provide leadership, coaching and training to Plant Metallurgists and Graduate Metallurgists.
  • To take a leading role in project work in all areas of the process plant – crushing, grinding, flotation, autoclaves, oxygen plant, CIL elution and gold recovery.
  • To monitor performance of the plant and identify and solve process problems in a timely manner to minimise impact on process plant performance.
  • To review and approve daily, weekly and monthly metallurgical accounting and reporting.
  • Actively participate in all departmental activities, including skills training, departmental communications or tool-box meetings and other activities as required.
  • Ensure that there is a culture of open communication within all levels of the section and that all employees / contractors comply with site policies and procedures.
  • Ensure work-groups meet or exceed safety requirements through monitoring of on-job OH&S standards and follow up occupational health and safety issues
  • Actively participate in a culture of best OH&S practice in the work group through leading by example, mentoring and development of junior work-group personnel.
  • Act for the Superintendent Metallurgy as required.

The successful candidate will have:

  • A tertiary qualification in Metallurgical or Chemical Engineering from a recognized institution.
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in a Metallurgist role in a mining process plant.
  • Demonstrable expertise in several key area of plant operation; - (grinding, flotation, pressure oxidation, CIL, oxygen plant).
  • Strong computer skills and knowledge of computerised control systems in the plant.
  • Able to organise, plan, and work with minimal supervision.
  • Well-developed interpersonal, written and oral communication skills in English.
  • A demonstrated track record in analytical problem solving skills together with an aptitude to solve technical difficulties.
  • Experience in supervising people.
