MINING ENGINEERING: 5526 - Drill and Blast Engineer

Our Client’s flagship operation of its growing ferrous and carbon steel division is located in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. The Company is recognised internationally as a reliable independent supplier of high-grade, low impurity mineral commodities to world markets. Mining operations utilise traditional open pit mining methods, with ore being sourced from multiple open pits and blended to maintain consistent product specifications. Based on a strategy of increasing production in line with market demand, it currently produces over 900,000 tonnes of product and has plans in place to substantially increase production next year.

They are currently seeking the services of an experienced Drill and Blast Engineer to join their team. The objective of the role is to fulfill the technical functions for the drill and blast department to ensure sufficient broken stocks to ensure the production schedules are achieved.

Duties of the role are:

Assist in the management of the Drill & Blast function to ensure safety of all stakeholders and to adherence to mining regulations, and fulfill all technical aspects of the Drill & Blast department including, but not limited to:

  • Designing and monitoring of blasts
  • Quality Assurance on drilling and charging functions
  • Recording information and preparing reports
  • Assist Drill & Blast Supervisor in managing the Drill & Blast function
  • Preparing the forecast of explosive usage and monitor the site explosive levels
  • Investigate variances on Drill & Blast performance
  • Liaise with Planning Engineers to schedule drill and blast functions
  • Liaise with Explosives contractor to ensure forecasts of explosive requirements are met, as per supply contract
  • Monitor, investigate and review drill and blast practices, policies and procedures to constantly improve the drill and blast function

 Requirements of the role are:

  • Degree in Mining Engineering or equivalent
  • Completed sufficient practical mining experience to obtain first class or quarry manager’s certificate and have some experience in a drill and blast role
  • Ideally have a Knowledge of Surpac
