Our client is one of the world's leading natural resources groups, focused on copper production. They operate 17 underground and open pit mines across Eastern Europe and they are currently looking for an Engineering Manager to join their team.

POSITION SUMMARY

An Engineering Manager is now sought to lead the engineering of this major project through to a successful conclusion. As the project moves through feasibility, engineering and construction, the focus of the project and the role will change, and also where the Engineering Manager needs to be. The Engineering Manager will lead the engineering project team, co-ordinate all resources and direct the activity of the EPCM contractor to work on building the project.   

The Engineering Manager will report to the Project Director and be a principal member of the leadership team for the project.

This is an exciting time to be joining the project for an experienced and accomplished major project Engineering Manager, to lead the engineering team and to deliver this high profile project over the course of the next months and years.

Accountabilities

• Direct and control multi-discipline design engineering activities in consultation with other Owner’s team managers and professionals, to ensure standards of safety, quality, cost and schedule are met.
• Management of the engineering team and activities in different locations
• Schedule and allocate the work of the Owner's team to meet agreed schedules
• Direct the engineering activities of the EPCM contractor.
• Review and sign off plans, drawings and specifications.
• Ensure that expenditure and schedule are maintained within the design budget and that a vigorous change management programme is in place
• Passionate advocate of the highest standards of safety, both in design and operational aspects of engineering.
• Provide visible HSE leadership to all persons working on the project.
• Mentor  national engineers to develop their knowledge and skills

Candidate profile

• At a high level, the following characteristics are likely to be important for the Project Director Bozshakol:
• Mining project engineering experience – highly experienced in the mining sector in the engineering of large mining projects (similar investment or technical size 26MT year) , with probably 15-20+ years of engineering expertise on projects of an appropriate scale;
• Leadership – strong leadership skills are required to marshal resources, lead the activities of the EPCM contractor and the team on the ground and drive the project towards a successful conclusion;
• Visible HSE leadership – on all activities relating to the project
• Preferably work experience in FSU or other cold weather region
• Remote and cold climate mining – experience of temperature extremes and harsh climate conditions for mining in remote locations that provides challenges which it would be useful for the individual to have faced previously;
• Communication – working effectively and leading and developing local staff.  Cultural awareness.
•  Robust style – a single-mindedness to overcome obstacles and get the project done will be needed throughout;
• Specific concentrator SX/EW plant experience would be essential for this role.
• Relevant Tertiary Engineering Qualifications.
• Proven leadership skills and abilities to develop subordinate staff.
• Ability to communicate in English & Russian will be an advantage.
• Hands on management style encouraging participative and entrepreneurial input but with clearly focused business goals.
• Champions change and effectively manages the implementation of new ideas.
