Our client is one of the world's leading natural resources groups, focused on copper production. They operate 17 underground and open pit mines across Eastern Europe and they are currently looking for an Engineering Manager.
Position Description: The Engineering Manager is accountable directly to the Project Director. This position will manage the its own Engineering Team and direct the EPCM contractor engineering activities.
Accountabilities
- Direct and control multi-discipline design engineering activities in consultation with other team managers and professionals, to ensure standards of safety, quality, cost and schedule are met.
- Management of engineering team and activities in different locations
- Schedule and allocate the work of the Owners team to meet agreed schedules
- Direct the engineering activities of the EPCM contractor.
- Review and signs off plans, drawings and specifications on behalf of Company
- Ensure that expenditure and schedule are maintained within the design budget and that a vigorous change management programme is in place
- Passionate advocate of the highest standards of safety, both in design and operational aspects of engineering.
Provide visible HSE leadership to all persons working on the project.
Mentor national engineers to develop their knowledge and skills
Professional Qualities;
- Mining project engineering experience -highly experienced in the mining sector in the engineering of large mining projects (similar investment or technical size 26MT year) , with probably 15-20+ years of engineering expertise on projects of an appropriate scale;
- Leadership -strong leadership skills are required to marshal resources, lead the activities of the EPCM contractor and the team on the ground and drive the project towards a successful conclusion;
- Visible HSE leadership on all activities relating to the project
- Preferably work experience in FSU or other cold weather region
- Remote and cold climate mining - experiences temperature extremes and experience of harsh climate conditions for mining in more remote locations provides challenges which it would be useful for the individual to have faced previously;
- Communication -working effectively and leading and developing local staff. Cultural awareness and an understanding of the importance of this project to Locals;
- Robust style -a single-mindedness to overcome obstacles and get the project done will be needed throughout;
- Relevant Tertiary Engineering Degree.
- Proven leadership skills and abilities to develop subordinate staff.
- Ability to communicate in English
- Hands on management style encouraging participative and entrepreneurial input but with clearly focused business goals.
- Champions change and effectively manage the implementation of new ideas.

- Languages: English Language essential.
