We have an opportunity for an Exploration Field Geologist on a contract assignment to be part of our clients gold projects in West Africa.

Our client is a well financed explorer on the verge of developing two gold mining projects in while at the same time sustaining their exploration and discovery successes through ongoing aggressive, well funded exploration programs which include over 200,000m of drilling planned for 2010.

Your main responsibilities in this role include:

• Field mapping of geology, structural information and regolith Investigating (prospecting) exploration targets in the field and ranking targets for drill testing

• Compiling field observations into GIS format, GIS database management, analysis and targeting, with recommendations for exploration follow-up

• Provide technical expertise to assist drilling programs as required Share geological best practises to mentor National geologists,  plus     

• Monitor and manage QA/QC of exploration data

The successful applicant for this role will demonstrate the following competencies:        

• Degree in Geology with 7 – 15 years practical exploration experience.

• Strong field geology skills, especially mapping

• Gold exploration experience in Proterozoic or Archean terrains

• Experience in tropical or Sub-Saharan regolith environments

• Advanced GIS and database skills

• Significant exploration and development drilling experience (RC, DD)

• Excellent English written and oral communication skills, French language skills would be an asset,  and

• Previous experience in West Africa a plus

The position would be primarily field based in various locations with accommodation in Company housing in towns near the project areas. A six month contract is initially an offer, which could expand into a longer term contract or permanent employment depending on performance. A competitive salary will be offered to the successful candidate commensurate with experience, and the rotational schedule is negotiable.
