Our client is a Canadian-based gold mining and exploration company engaged in the operation, exploration, development and acquisition of gold properties in Asia, the former Soviet Union and other emerging markets worldwide. They are now seeking a Senior Underground Geologist to join their team in the Kyrgyz Republic.

THE ROLE

Reporting to the Underground Mine Manager, the Senior Underground Geologist will have a key role on the underground project team, with the aim to develop and bring into production the underground mine. The underground operation will supplement production from the open pit mining operation thereby extending the current life of mine. The operation is located in the Tien Shan Mountain range of the Kyrgyz Republic at an elevation of approximately 4,000 metres.
Your main responsibilities will include-

• Leading, developing and mentoring the UG geology team
• Resource-modelling and reserve estimation
• Underground sampling and grade control
• Underground mapping
• Planning and management of resource definition drill programs
• Liaising with the KOC Exploration Manager, responsible for open pit and other exploration targets in Kyrgyzstan

THE CANDIDATE

The successful candidate will possess or demonstrate the following:

• A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline
• A minimum of 5 years' experience working in an underground operations environment 
• An absolute commitment to safe work practices
• Excellent computer skills together with proven experience using Gemcom or similar resource modeling software
• Well developed inter-personal skills with an aptitude for leadership and training
• Prior experience in a FSU country, or other expatriate environment, would be advantageous
• Must be fit enough to work at high altitude

This is a resident position, located in Bishkek, the capital city of the Kyrgyz Republic, though the successful candidate will work and live at the mine site during 9 days on 5 days off roster. The position would be of particular interest to a young dynamic Geologist with at proven track record. An attractive expatriate remuneration package will be offered to the successful candidate.
